Do Hard Things - Session 2 "The birth of the big idea"

4th October 2009

"The teen years are the training ground of future leaders who dare to be responsible now!"

With over 30 young people again at the King's Centre we began session 2 with a time of worship. Rhiana, Roanne and James led us excellently into the presence of Jesus.

The headlines from session 2..."The birth of the big idea"

  • We had lined up a live Skype call with Chris Mclean in Canada to interview him about Church planting and how God called him back to Canada...but all we got was his answerphone...never mind we will get him one day!

  • Not deterred we asked Nick about his initiative to launch an Alpha course at his school. Nick is waiting for answer from the school and we will update you as soon as we know, but in the meantime well done Nick!
  • Looking at the birth of the big idea I took the young people through the story of Nehemiah and how his life changed when he heard that Jerusalem was still in ruins. We looked at Nehemiah being totally dependent on God and how he gathered God's people to rebuild the city walls within 2 months!
  • In groups the young people then discussed what dreams they have and what they can do now to start working towards that dream. It has all been written down and I am so amazed and encouraged by our young people.

"It's ordinary people who decide to step out and be part of something big...that's when they become extraordinary!" Alex and Brett Harris

We closed the evening by quoting the encouraging story of Heidi Bentley (chapter 2 of the book "Do Hard Things") and how she broke out of her comfort zones.

Session 3, "The myth of adolescence" is taking place this Sunday (11th October) at the King's Centre. I can't wait to teach on this excellent chapter of the book!
